Dianette is a combined hormonal contraceptive pill that contains synthetic versions of the body’s natural hormones: ethinylestradiol (an oestrogen) and cyproterone (an anti-androgen). It is around 99% effective in preventing pregnancy when used consistently and is particularly beneficial for women with moderate to severe acne. Dianette’s unique combination helps reduce excess sebum (oil) production, minimizing clogged pores and decreasing acne breakouts. We can prescribe this medication to women aged 16-50 following a consultation to ensure it’s the right choice for you.

Choosing the Right Contraceptive

When selecting a contraceptive, several factors—such as age, weight, medical and family history, and lifestyle habits like smoking—need to be considered. While Dianette is effective for acne and hormonal balance, other contraceptive options, including combined oral contraception (COC), progesterone-only pills (POP), and Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) options, may be recommended for specific needs. Women at higher risk for blood clots may prefer lower-risk alternatives, such as Eloine or Mercilon.
