Summary
Lamisil Cream is used for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin in adults and children aged 12 years and over. It is applied once or twice daily to the affected areas and should be continued for the full course of treatment as directed by your prescriber. The duration of treatment varies depending on the type and severity of the infection but generally ranges from one to six weeks. If symptoms have not resolved after four weeks of treatment, the prescriber should be consulted.
How it Works (The Science)
Terbinafine hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Lamisil Cream, works by inhibiting the growth of fungi that cause infections. Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal that interferes with the fungal cell membrane, leading to the death of the fungi. This action is specific to fungal cells, allowing healthy cells to remain intact.
How to Use
• Wash and dry the affected area before applying Lamisil Cream.
• Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and surrounding skin, rubbing it in gently.
• The cream should be applied once or twice daily, as directed by your prescriber.
• Wash hands after applying the cream, unless hands are the area being treated.
• Do not cover the treated area with a bandage or dressing, unless directed to do so by your prescriber.
• Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
Warnings (Important!)
• Avoid applying Lamisil Cream to open wounds or broken skin.
• Lamisil Cream is for external use only and should not be ingested or used in the eyes or ears.
• If skin irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult your prescriber.
• Do not use Lamisil Cream if you are allergic to terbinafine or any of its components.
