Summary
Clotrimazole 1% cream is used to treat fungal skin infections in adults and children. The cream should be applied to the affected area twice daily for up to 4 weeks. The cream should not be used for more than 4 weeks without consulting a healthcare professional. If symptoms persist after 4 weeks of treatment, the patient should be reviewed by a healthcare professional. The maximum weekly dose of Clotrimazole 1% cream should not exceed 45g.
How it Works (The Science)
Clotrimazole 1% cream works by inhibiting the growth of the fungus that causes fungal skin infections. Clotrimazole interferes with the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This leads to leakage of intracellular contents and ultimately causes cell death.
How to Use
• Wash and dry the affected area before applying the cream.
• Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and the surrounding skin twice daily.
• Rub the cream in gently.
• Wash your hands after applying the cream, unless the hands are the area being treated.
• Do not cover the treated area with a dressing or bandage.
• Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
• Do not use the cream for more than 4 weeks without consulting a healthcare professional.
Warnings (Important!)
• Do not use Clotrimazole 1% cream if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients in the cream.
• Do not use the cream on broken skin or near your eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes.
• If you experience an allergic reaction such as a rash, hives, itching, or difficulty breathing, discontinue use and seek medical attention immediately.
• If symptoms persist after 4 weeks of treatment, the patient should be reviewed by a healthcare professional.
