Daktacort Cream

Daktacort cream is used for the treatment of fungal skin infections in adults and children over the age of 10. A thin layer is applied to the affected skin areas twice daily for a maximum of 7 days. If symptoms have not improved after 7 days, treatment should be reviewed with the prescriber. The maximum weekly dose of Daktacort cream should not exceed 60g.

Daktacort cream combines the effects of its two active ingredients. Miconazole works by inhibiting the growth of fungi by interfering with their cell membranes. Hydrocortisone reduces the inflammation, redness and itching associated with fungal infections.

• Wash and dry the affected skin areas before applying the cream. • Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas twice daily, in the morning and evening. • Rub the cream gently into the skin until it disappears. • Do not cover the treated skin areas with a dressing or bandage unless instructed by a healthcare professional. • Wash your hands after applying the cream unless the hands are the area being treated. • Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nose or other mucous membranes. • If symptoms have not improved after 7 days, treatment should be reviewed with the prescriber.

• Do not use Daktacort cream if you are allergic to miconazole, hydrocortisone or any of the other ingredients. • Avoid using the cream on the face, genitals or other sensitive areas unless directed by a healthcare professional. • Do not use on broken or damaged skin. • Avoid using the cream for longer than 7 days unless directed by a healthcare professional.

We do not recommend using Daktacort in pregnancy or breastfeeding as there are probably safer alternatives.

Side effects can include: Burning sensation, itching, skin irritation, rash, hives, swelling, redness, peeling, or blistering of the skin. In rare cases, prolonged use of topical corticosteroids can lead to skin thinning, changes in skin colour, and increased susceptibility to infections.
