Summary
Telfast 180mg tablets are indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis in adults and children over the age of 12 years. It may also be used off-license to relieve the itch associated with itchy or dry skin conditions such as eczema or hives. The recommended dose is one tablet taken once daily. It is best to take Telfast on an empty stomach or with a light meal, as a heavy meal may delay the absorption of the medication. The duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of symptoms and the patient's response to the medication. Patients should not exceed the recommended dose of one tablet per day.
How it Works (The Science)
Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. Histamine is a substance produced by the body in response to allergens, which can cause a range of symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. Fexofenadine works by blocking the action of histamine, thereby reducing allergy symptoms. It does not cause drowsiness or sedation, which is a common side effect of older antihistamines.
How to Use
• Take one tablet once daily with water.
• It is best to take Telfast on an empty stomach or with a light meal.
• Do not crush or chew the tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed by the body.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
• Do not exceed the recommended dose of one tablet per day.
Warnings (Important!)
• Do not take Telfast if you are allergic to fexofenadine or any of the other ingredients in the tablet.
• Consult your pharmacist or doctor before taking Telfast if you have kidney disease or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Telfast may cause drowsiness in some patients. If this occurs, do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
• If you experience any unusual symptoms, such as difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek immediate medical attention.
• Do not take Telfast with fruit juices, as they may decrease the absorption of the medication.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is limited data on the use of Telfast during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is recommended to consult your pharmacist or doctor before taking Telfast if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Ingredients
Active Ingredient: Fexofenadine Hydrochloride 180mg
Other Ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised maize starch, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica, hypromellose, macrogol 400, titanium dioxide (E171), yellow iron oxide (E172), and red iron oxide (E172).
Shelf Life: 3 years.
